Why We Started the Tournament, This year marks our third annual Volleyball Fundraiser Tournament, proudly hosted at the Howard Armstrong Centre in Hanmer, Greater Sudbury. Our tournament will take place July 18th of this year. What began as an idea has grown into a community tradition—one where local businesses face off for medals, bragging rights, and a great cause. While none of us are professional volleyball players, we are professionals when it comes to supporting our community and giving back. For years, we personally took part in local fundraising events such as the Heart & Stroke Big Bike and Dragon Boat races. Unfortunately, many of these events have since been discontinued in the Sudbury area. We found ourselves asking the same question repeatedly: How can we continue to give back while bringing fun, connection, and purpose back to our community? As spouses and business partners, we were driven to create something that combined community impact, networking, and enjoyment—something that reflected the new era of upcoming business leaders who believe success and social responsibility go hand in hand. The final piece came together while attending a training meeting with our franchise partners, DKI. During that session, a guest speaker from Ronald McDonald House Charities shared the profound impact DKI has had through its longstanding partnership. Together, DKI franchises across Canada have raised over $800,000 in support of their programs—an achievement that deeply inspired us. With our personal event contributing just over $15 000 over the past two years. With an established partnership already in place, supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities felt like the perfect alignment of our business values and personal passion. This tournament allows us to support a meaningful cause, strengthen relationships within the local business community, and bring people together for a day of fun, teamwork, and purpose. Thus, three years later, our vision continues—bringing people together, strengthening our community, and proving that giving back can be both meaningful and fun.
