Kian's Garden

April 3, 2019 my nephew Kian was born right at 23 weeks gestation. He came out fighting like the champ, we would learn in the following months, he was born to be. Over the next 5 months Kian grew and met each of his many challenges with the feisty Irish Canadian spirit that he was born with. Over the next 5 months his family near and far watched and prayed with his parents as they travelled their new life as a new NICU family. We cried tears of joy and heartbreak with every hurdle and every triumph Kian took on in his very new and very challenging life. He taught so many people how to live for everyday, to love unconditionally, and to hope. On Sept 26, 2019 Kian succumbed to his challenges after a brave battle for every ounce, through every new ventilator, every surgery, every challenge that came his way. His family misses him day in and day out since he became an angel looking over each of us but most especially over his mom and dad. They, through all the ups and downs, stood stead fast, mustering strength even they never new was possible. This winter, along with some help from my 2 oldest daughters (5 and 7 years old), we started propagating some of our house plants like we always do. Every spring we inevitably give away or sell what we won't plant outside. This winter we decided that we would sell them in the spring and send the proceeds to RMHC - Manitoba who provided a home away from home for his mom and dad so that they could be by his side. As many of us mourn the loss of this precious boy who fought so hard to let us know him for as long as he was able we hope that even this small gesture can help another family coping with the life changing journey that is a sick loved one. We will be selling our little house plants for $5 each in the hopes we can try to leave a small footprint, just like Kian's, on the heart of a family that needs a safe space to be in a time of great uncertainty.
