Celebrating Sloan

Shortly after birth Sloan contracted RSV, a respiratory virus that took over her only days-old body. After multiple trips to other emergency rooms, with our concerns being dismissed, we finally made the decision to head to LHSC. Sloan was immediately taken in and surrounded by doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists. Later that night, in the early hours of March 4th, she was admitted to Paediatric Critical Care. She spent nearly a week hooked up to a multitude of machines and oxygen apparatus to help her breathe. Once she was more stabilized, she was moved to the regular paediatric floor. It was here where we experienced the generosity and care of the Ronald McDonald Charity. Each morning volunteers made rounds with hot coffee and tea, they gifted Sloan with brand new, clean outfits, we had access to a full kitchen stocked with food and drinks, and a rec room with TV, couches, games, etc - all only steps away from our baby. We also stayed in one of their suites for a night that boasted a regular bed and private bathroom with shower - a much appreciated upgrade from hospital couches and pull out chairs. As we celebrate Sloan’s first birthday we want to pass along some love, support and comforts to other families going through the unimaginable with a sick child.
