What is a room? The simple answer is, four walls and a door. But to a teenager, a room can be privacy, escape, control, sanctuary and security. For a family staying at Ronald McDonald House, a room represents those same things. It is your space away from home. It is where weary head hits soft pillow. Where tears can be shed without an outsider's gaze. It is a space for private frustration. It is home. This February, it will be thirteen years since we first walked through the doors of our room at Ronald McDonald House in London. Every year, on our daughter's birthday, we return and we make and serve breakfast to the families currently calling the House their Home. This year, for the second time because of Covid, we cannot walk through the doors of the house and feed the families there. This year, we need to give back in another way. A teenager needs their own room. Our teenager wants that room to be a home for families at Ronald McDonald House in London. It costs $5000 to sponsor a room for a year.
