Roman's Journey

Our family has been on/off residents of RMHC Toronto since our son Roman was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma in 2022 at the age of 16 months. The phrase "It could never happen to me" comes to mind often and the sad truth is just because it's not happening to you doesn't mean it's not happening. We never imagined ourselves in a situation where we would use a service like this and yet there we were - scared, heartbroken, and trying to cope with the new reality of our lives. RMHC is not just a place to stay - it's a place where you can just "be". Whether it's talking to a counselor, visiting with the therapy dog, attending kids events, or just taking a breather with a cup of tea while chatting with another parent in the kitchen makes all the difference for families during treatments. Roman turned 4 this past February and is thriving! We have fewer visits to Toronto now that his health is more stable but we speak often of our time at the house (he loves the Moose!) and we will never forget the support we received from RMHC.
